Hotel Garni am Domplatz

The staff were excellent. We arrived after Reception had closed, but reaching someone was easy, and she talked us through getting the key and parking. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of storage, and I liked having a reading light on each side. The bathroom was especially nice, with a heated floor, a roomy shower with strong pressure and very hot water, and a blow dryer with an outlet for other devices. There was a long shelf and several towel racks, so we could hang our toiletry bags. I only wish the room had a safe. This was our first stay at Hotel Garni, but it won't be our last.

The staff were kind, helpful, and accommodating. Special thanks to Nancy, who gave us lots of recommendations and went out of her way to help my friend get his phone back after he'd left it in his room and we'd already departed. I booked an apartment for my time in Erfurt, and it was a great fit: close to the landmarks, especially Domplatz, furnished well, and pleasantly quiet. It had a small kitchen, and the bed was comfortable. I'll book here on every future visit.

Erfurt is a really nice old town, and the cathedral, Kramerbrucke, and the view from Zitadelle Petersburg were all within walking distance. We got a friendly welcome from the receptionist. Our room was lovely, clean, and quiet, and breakfast was decent and reasonably priced.

We were a group of nine needing three rooms, and Nancy and the rest of the staff were so kind. They upgraded our rooms and did a lot to make the stay enjoyable. My German is basically nonexistent, but Nancy patiently listened to my attempts and was happy to explain things in English. Our rooms seemed to suit everyone, though I didn't spend much time in my friends' rooms. I was in the penthouse suite, which had nice town views and plenty of chairs for all nine of us to meet and play cards. It was the only room on that floor, so it was quiet and I heard no noise. I can't say what the lower-floor rooms were like. The bed was soft, the pillows were good, and I slept well. It got quite warm during our stay, so the fan in the bedroom was much appreciated. The bathroom was clean and well equipped, with heated floors, which I absolutely loved. The kitchen had plates, cutlery, and cups that we used, though I can't comment on the cooktop since we didn't use it. The hotel is across the street from Petersberg Citadel, which was marvellous to explore. The Erfurt Oktoberfest was just down the road while we were there. It was loud during the day, but the noise stopped by 11pm. We were at the festival until then anyway, and had a lot of fun. There were free coffee pods and water on the second floor, a nice touch. The pods were good enough for me to drink black. We needed to leave our luggage after checkout, and the hotel had a room for that. Nancy made it possible for us to get back into the locked hotel and collect our bags. There were lots of stairs, as the elevator only reaches the third floor of this five-floor building. The rooms ran hot, but the cold weather outside made that manageable. It took a while to get the key to work, but once we got used to it, it was fine. Thanks for a memorable stay. We'll be telling stories about this short visit for years.
