The views over Ernst’s steep, green vineyards were wonderful, and the room was spacious, with a sofa and TV beside the bed. There are only German channels. Breakfast is served each morning in a small dining room, with coffee or tea, juice, eggs, bread, cheese, ham, homemade jams, and fruit. The house has three rooms. Richard met us as we were parking and helped with our luggage. He says his English isn’t great, but he gets by well. The bathroom was clean, though there were no toiletries, so bring your own soap, shower gel, and shampoo. Ernst is a small village with a few cute restaurants and wine spots, most closing around 9 pm. It’s about five minutes from Cochem and much quieter. Bring enough cash for the accommodation, since cards aren’t accepted.
