Holiday Inn - the niu, Cobbles Essen by IHG

After a long day adventuring at Spiel, that bed was so comfortable it practically tucked us in for the night. The staff were friendly and professional, and breakfast was nice, which matters most to me. Everything else would just be nitpicking. Very good value for money.

I'm still facing seven days here because otherwise I'd lose all my money. Completely disgusted. There's no tea or coffee setup in the room, or even glasses if you bring a drink from somewhere else. The heating and air conditioning don't work even though all the lights are on, and nobody seems to know how to use them. From the moment I arrived, the staff were rude and unfriendly. When I asked about parking, which the hotel says it has, I was told they really don't. I booked a queen room, but got pushed aside for a family and given a room I hadn't booked. Asking about that only got me told to speak to the manager tomorrow. At check-in the woman aggressively asked, “Checking in?” I said yes, and she replied, “No, only at 3pm.” Not even a hello or offer to help. I can't stand rude people. This is the first and last time I'll stay here.

The price was very affordable for what the hotel offers. My room was lovely, with lots of thoughtful details, and the place was clean with amazing staff. I was only there for one night on a business trip, but would have happily stayed longer for leisure. Can only recommend!

A real shame. We booked a room in January, then found out in October that the booking had been cancelled because of a credit card problem they hadn't managed to notify us about properly. Their last email had said everything was fine, but it clearly wasn't. It's awful when this sort of thing happens.
