Hotel Adler Bärental

This is about the restaurant, not the hotel. We were tourists who arrived at 8 pm hoping to have dinner, but were politely turned away because the kitchen was closed. As we were leaving, the person at reception asked what he could do. We explained how frustrating it was to be refused at 8 when closing time was listed as 10 pm. The person there told us to read the information properly and check the website, then insisted we go look at it and understand what we'd read. The attitude was rude, unfriendly, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Maybe it was off season for this location, and I'm trying to be reasonable about that, but the way we were treated was completely unacceptable.

Our suite, No. 10, felt newly renovated in the best way: clean and functional. We were there for just one night, but the warm, cosy setting and upper-class experience throughout made it special. The concierge/manager was fantastic, made us feel welcome, and deserves big props. Service was fantastic, and the hotel restaurant surprised us with a Michelin-level dining experience, well beyond what we'd expected. A+ and highly recommended.

Finally, a really good meal in the region. We booked through Michelin, as we had on other nights elsewhere, and weren't disappointed. The family chef served excellent asparagus, salad, local game, and local desserts, with very personable service. My one disappointment was the wine list. It had plenty of options, but the overall quality of the selection wasn't great.

Everyone was kind, professional, and welcoming. Our room was comfortable and quiet, and breakfast in the morning was lovely. Dinner was impressive, especially the gnocchi, some of the best I've ever had, with a bright, fresh herb sauce. Dessert was exceptional: fresh strawberries, basil ice cream I wish I could take home, and light-as-air vanilla crème.
