As a city boy, I’ll remember rounding up the ducks and chickens on New Year’s Eve most of all. It was a blast! The owners were so warm and accommodating, and the little house is lovely, cozy, and thoughtfully furnished with everything you need. It works perfectly for two, though a small family can stay too. We’d happily return.

On our second visit to the Holzmichel holiday home, we spent the evenings enjoying the wood-burning stove and tried the neighbors’ fresh eggs. The house is charming and has everything you need. We felt at home again, got to explore the area, and found the owners just as friendly and helpful as before. We’ll be back.

It’s a great starting point for hikes, and even with the owners living right next door, we had complete privacy. Holzmichel is tucked away in Finsterbergen, but this cozy little retreat is worth tracking down. The owners are relaxed and very friendly. We do have one disappointment, pets aren’t allowed, and we usually travel with our dog. Seeing the three friendly ducks wandering around helped me understand why.

The wood-burning stove kept the house lovely and warm during our February stay, and we spent plenty of time watching the chickens and ducks go about their day. Inside, the wooden house is full of tasteful details. The bedroom and bathroom are fantastic, the living room feels cozy and has a little play area, and the kitchen has everything needed. Hiking trails are nearby. We’ll definitely return.
