There were ten of us, a Dutch and English extended family ranging in age from 12 to 80, and we had a wonderful break in Forellenbach. We booked three apartments, including a large one with a living room where we could all gather in the evenings. The whole place felt welcoming, like a home away from home. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Breakfast had loads of choice, came in generous portions, and we had our own assigned table. There’s wood everywhere, baskets of fruit and ginger water in the hallway, sleds to borrow, a sauna and steam room, and a little shop. Guests can also use an outbuilding in the afternoon for a cheap soup or stew and a drink. A blue ski run is within 100 meters, and Fischen station is a five-minute walk away. Trains to Oberstdorf take ten minutes and run regularly, with shuttles onward to several ski areas. My parents didn’t ski, but enjoyed several stunning walks nearby and had a massage at Vitalhaus in town. We also ate well at the local Greek and Italian restaurants and had gluhwein at the cosy Gluhwein Oasis. We can’t recommend this place enough.

Everything provided was fine. Crossing the road to the center of Fischen was often difficult because of the heavy traffic. That’s not the hotel’s fault, but a pedestrian traffic light at the intersection would help people cross safely.

The outdoor area is a lovely place to relax, and breakfast is plentiful. My room was clean, well equipped, and had everything I needed. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, without hovering. Hotel-Restaurant Forellenbach is just a few minutes’ walk from Fischen train station, and it’s well placed for exploring the area. A great choice if you want peace and quiet while still being able to get around easily.
