The staff were really kind, and there was complimentary coffee and tea. One of my best stays in Germany.

Breakfast was superb, and the place felt warm and cozy, like home. I enjoyed staying here more than I have at some five-star hotels. It's also very close to the train station and convention site, so getting around Freiburg or setting off on foot toward the Black Forest is easy.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and breakfast was good, though it changed very little from day to day and became repetitive after a few days. Wi-Fi was fine when it worked, but at some times it was barely usable. I stayed six nights in August, and the glasses and mugs were never replaced, even when visibly dirty. The location is excellent: Freiburg Hauptbahnhof is a three-minute walk away, the city centre takes 5-10 minutes on foot, and the hotel sits on a quiet side street. My room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the familiar decor felt like many other small German hotels I've stayed in. The bathroom was modern but quite small. The main problem was the air conditioning. After about 15 minutes it began making a very loud buzzing sound on and off, which continued after I turned it off. I found that switching from cooling to fan mode stopped it, but the room then cooled much less effectively. I could hear the same noise from other rooms in the corridor too.

A cozy hotel with a distinctive feel, and it was clean with nice staff. The location was great. I paid €165 a night without breakfast, which felt a bit high for this kind of hotel, so I took off a star.
