Courtyard by Marriott Freiburg

A special arrival gift in my room made the stay memorable. This was the best Courtyard hotel I’ve come across in all my travels. The breakfast buffet had smoothies and all the usual choices, plus perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. Front desk staff were exceptionally professional and spoke very well. The hotel parking is underneath, well lit and conveniently connected to the elevator. It’s paid separately, but paying on floor -1 was quick and easy.

On our second stay at Courtyard by Marriott Freiburg, we again found clean, well-kept rooms, a modern hotel and friendly, welcoming staff. It’s hard to ask for much more from a Courtyard. The Old Town is an easy walk away, and higher floors are quiet with a nice view. The bar is a pleasant place in the evening, and breakfast is simple but perfectly fine. As a Platinum member, I got the usual bar voucher. I haven’t had a major room upgrade yet, although I’m not sure how much the room categories vary.

The bed and pillows were comfortable, and we slept well. Breakfast was better than I expected, since I hadn’t expected much from hotel breakfast in Germany. The air conditioning in our room had a problem. At first, staff insisted everything was fine, but we pressed the issue until they checked and finally saw it. We had to move rooms late at night, and went from a corner room with a larger layout to a smaller, standard room. Fantastic. 🙄 Also, even if you live in this town, they still charge tourist tax. I found that ridiculous.

The room felt a bit dark and not especially warm, which was a letdown compared with the rest of the stay. The breakfast buffet was good, though, and the hotel is very well placed, a one-minute walk from the train station and close to everything.
