Pension Waldheim

It’s tucked away in nature, yet the tram is right across the street, so the location is really good. The room sat above a little stream, and I fell asleep to the water and birds. I think it was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in Germany. Such a lovely place to stay.

The tram stop is right outside, with service about every 10 minutes. It’s roughly 5-10 minutes into town, and a 24 hour ticket costs under 6.50 euro, so getting around is really cheap. The hotel is well kept and the rooms are a good size. Downstairs, the restaurant serves good food at very good prices, and the beer is great. I didn’t try breakfast, though after the evening meal I’m sure it’s good. We’ll definitely come back and recommend it to friends and anyone looking to stay in or around Freiburg.

We loved the character of this Bed & Breakfast, from the traditional, quirky decor and the tiled oven in the breakfast room to the little stream murmuring behind the house. It’s set in the beautiful foothills of the Black Forest, just a few minutes outside Freiburg’s city centre, and suited us perfectly since we value character over luxury. We’ll definitely be back! :)

It feels like you’re tucked into the woods in Güntherstal, right where Freiburg reaches the Schwarzwald, even though the city is only 10-15 minutes away. The place was clean, the staff friendly, and I’d happily recommend it to a friend.
