Oberkirch Weinstuben

Really good lunch and service, in a great spot with an old world feel. We’ve eaten trout plenty of times, and mine with potatoes was excellent. My wife had the sausage, lentils, and spaetzle.

The setting near the cathedral has just the charm you’d want from a traditional German meal in Freiburg. After three days in Germany, my wife and I finally had our first proper meal at Oberkirchs Weinstuben, and it was unforgettable. The food was authentic and beautifully made, the service warm but professional, and the location excellent. Highly recommended!

The spring rolls were cold in the middle, and most of the potatoes were still raw inside. The summer salad had just half a cherry tomato. At 25€, you’d expect at least a whole one. Service was very slow, and for those menu prices the restaurant feels like a gouge. Extremely disappointing. Avoid.

This is a restaurant review, not a hotel review. The food was great and gave us an authentic German dining experience. It’s right on Münsterplatz in a charming old building, with a cosy interior, rustic decor, and everything well preserved. The staff were generally friendly, though when a couple of issues came up with our orders, they didn’t always seem very professional in handling them.
