Biohotel Eggensberger

The hotel welcomed us warmly, and the room and food were excellent. There are incredible walks right outside, and the location is superb. Service at the bar and in the dining room could be inattentive at times. Some evenings went smoothly, while on others the operation seemed to lack overall management. My one small complaint was paying for water with dinner: cold filtered water is complimentary in the wellness area, but not in the restaurant, where bottled water costs €6.90. Still, we had a very enjoyable stay.

We spent Christmas at Biohotel Eggensberger and loved the whole week. We got around entirely on foot, by bus, and by train, with no need for a car, and the location was ideal for local hikes and sightseeing. The hotel facilities are beautiful, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and considerate. The restaurant’s food and service were outstanding throughout our stay. The chefs handled my vegan diet so well, with delicious menus and plenty of variety. We especially enjoyed breakfast, the generous lunch and afternoon tea buffets, and the dinner menus. There’s also a well-stocked bar and a great wine list, and we appreciated the helpful daily wine suggestions. The family carol service on Christmas Eve was the icing on the cake.

The sauna, steam room, and outdoor pool were brilliant, especially after a long day hiking. We really enjoyed the bikes too, once we got them sorted. They were offered for free, which we appreciated, but the first staff member had no time to show us how they worked. We had to return twice, first because the battery on one bike was run down, then because the second bike’s saddle couldn’t be adjusted. After that, they were fantastic. The Fussen Pass and free taxis to and from the station were also much appreciated. Some of the kitchen and hot counter staff were lovely, while others could do with more training in making guests feel looked after. When we left early on our final day, we were initially charged €17 for two packed breakfasts even though breakfast was included. We were told aggressively it was “because of all the extra work,” for two rolls, an apple, and some water in a bag. Fortunately, a nice man noticed on our last night that we shouldn’t have been charged and removed it. We were also charged €7 for bottled water each evening, though we only wanted tap water as the more eco-friendly option, and apparently that wasn’t allowed. It would have helped to have English translations for important signs, such as the sauna instructions, so non-German guests feel more included. The hotel itself is lovely and we had a great stay, but some staff could use more training.

The view was stunning, the food was wonderful, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. We felt warmly welcomed and loved every minute.
