Old Kings Design Hostel

This hostel was in a quaint area that feels very Bavarian, and the included towel was a nice extra. It's close to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles, though you need to walk to one of the train station bus stops to catch a ride to them. It's a fairly short walk. As of 8/11/2025 (or 11/8/2025 for us Americans), the round trip bus fare was 5.80 euros. I'd recommend staying here. Just remember to check your spam folder for the door code!

I could arrive at 11pm without a problem because check-in was self-service, so a late train wouldn't have been an issue. The staff member in the morning was extra friendly and fun to chat with. The bed was super comfortable, and the included towels were huge and really nice. There was plenty of space in the toilet and shower area. I'm usually not great with top bunks, but this ladder was really easy to climb. I had a fantastic stay!

The stay was great overall, and otherwise everything was top notch. The one thing I really have to criticize is the cost of coffee and tea. Most hostels at least offer them for free, but this one didn't.

The place is misleading and uncomfortable, and I wouldn't recommend it. They claim there's "absolute silence" at night, but with no staff on site to enforce it, many guests are very loud. The bathrooms are terrible: one toilet and two see-through showers, with nowhere to put clothes except on the wet floor. The men's bathroom is on the third floor and the women's on the second. There's no staff at reception, so getting the Füssen Card is difficult. I asked about early check-in or luggage storage and was told it “takes the full time to clean & sanitize,” which is obviously false, especially with a check-out time much earlier than other nearby places. The bunk beds are impractical for adults, the exit sign lights up the room at night, and there are no coat or towel racks, just a random decorative globe. There's no guest kitchen. There are better options nearby.
