Best Western Plus Hotel Fuessen

We had a package for two nights and three days that covered breakfast, one dinner, free parking, and free public transport around town and nearby areas. We used the transport for our trip to Castle Neuschwanstein. Our room was thoughtfully designed and clean, with floor heating that was great in the cold weather and excellent bedding. The whole stay felt perfect. Front office, restaurant, and housekeeping staff were all great, and the room was cleaned well. The food was good, and the hotel is centrally located, only 300 meters from Fussen old town. The WiFi was super fast too. It’s a magical place, and we’d stay again if we return to the area.

I’m writing about what happened during our stay and hope the hotel takes it seriously. The first time we spoke with a staff member, he was disrespectful and impatient, and blamed us for the hotel’s faulty circuits. When I plugged in my charger, the room went dark. It had worked perfectly at the hotel we stayed in the day before, but he insisted the charger was faulty rather than the sockets. He told us to stop plugging in chargers because it was bad for the hotel, even though we’d paid to stay and need to charge our devices. When the room blacked out a second time, he rudely called it our “last chance.” Please make sure staff speak politely to guests. I’ve also seen some of the hotel’s replies to one-star reviews, and it’s wrong for a customer service business to respond rudely to feedback meant to help it improve. The hotel calls itself a four-star property, yet replied to a review by saying someone shouldn’t expect much after booking a budget stay. Isn’t that contradictory? Guests deserve basic respect either way. I hope the hotel considers this experience and improves its service and attitude toward guests.

After finishing our Lechweg hike, this was a perfect place to stop. The lounge and bar were comfortable for chatting or catching up on emails. The restaurant and bar staff were quick to respond to what we wanted and made some great drink suggestions.

The restaurant was good, but I wouldn’t come back. I booked three nights at a BW hotel for the first time, and it’ll be my last. The room smelled bad when the A/C was on. It needs cleaning, since that can become dangerous. The shower had black spots all over the wall, which looked like mold rather than dirt and seemed to be where the bad shower smell came from. This should be easy and inexpensive to fix. The hotel’s branded soap was awful. A brand like WB should be able to arrange decent soap, or at least avoid a 3-in-1 shower product. Breakfast was basic, nothing looked fresh, and there were flies in the food, so I’d avoid it. There was no complimentary water in the room, only plastic bottles for sale in the minibar. When we raised these issues, the only solution offered was to pay for a comfort room, since there were no other rooms. It cost us less than moving to another hotel. That room didn’t have mold, but it smelled of dog, with fur across the bed and on the extra duvets for the sofa bed in the closet. Allowing pets is fine, but the room still needs cleaning. It was better than breathing moldy air, though. I’m not sure how this hotel got four stars. There are plenty of places nearby for similar prices. Unless you get a very good deal or have no other choice, I wouldn’t stay here. If you do, avoid spending much time in the room, given the mold and questionable air quality, and skip breakfast.
