We felt a little embarrassed trying to speak German, but the friendly staff quickly made us comfortable by switching to perfect English and giving us a warm welcome. The hotel is a pleasant 15-minute walk from town, handy for walking off dinner on the way back. There’s plenty of parking, and the on-site EV charger was easy to use and useful for our hire car. The location is good, and our spacious room had a fabulous mountain view and even a view of the castle. Breakfast had what we needed, and the whole hotel was very clean and tidy. It has a classic Germanic style with a slightly 1980s feel, some modernization, and a family history that gives it a cozy, authentic feel. The rooms aren’t the most modern, as is common across much of Europe. In the sauna, be aware that Germans may give you odd looks if you wear a swimsuit, since they prefer going nude. The lift was out of service, and the hotel seemed a bit too relaxed about that. We also got an unexpected wake-up call from drilling and banging at 7:30 in the morning because of refurbishment work in a couple of nearby rooms. I’m sure that was a one-off. We had a great overnight stop with our dog. The hosts were very welcoming, and both dinner and the generous breakfast buffet were excellent. A special thanks to Dani for her enthusiasm.

The room was small but cozy, and the sauna was very good. Breakfast was good too, with friendly, smiling service. It’s about a ten-minute walk from the station, and from my balcony I could see Neuschwanstein castle. Buses to the castles leave from about 1.5 km away, but they don’t come that often.

That balcony was such a nice spot to sit with a cold drink, read, or just take in the mountain view. My single room had a bed, sofa, desk with TV, wardrobe, safe and bathroom, and everything was clean, looked good and worked. The hotel is welcoming and quiet, about a 10 minute walk from the town centre. My German is pretty clumsy, but the staff spoke English and I had no trouble getting what I needed. I also had dinner one night, rump steak with fried potatoes and green beans, and cleared the plate. It all made for a really pleasant stay. I would have liked a kettle for a coffee before heading out in the morning. Space was limited in my small room, so perhaps the larger rooms have one. If you're visiting Fussen, this is a smart choice.
