Hotel Sommer Füssen

I loved breakfast, the amazing spa and the great massages. The staff were friendly, helpful and patient when I, like a forgetful tourist on vacation, left my things behind. The place was extremely clean, and the rooms were cleaned better than some luxury brands around the world. The furniture is a little old, but I didn’t mind much when there was such an amazing view of the Alps out the window. I can’t complain about anything.

We stayed with a toddler, which can be challenging, but everything went perfectly. The room was big and very comfortable, and all the staff were kind and accommodating. Service was outstanding, and breakfast at the restaurant was top quality, echtes Deutsches qualität. The hotel itself is super nice.

For four nights, the staff treated us like family and made everyone feel welcome and important. I wish I’d written down more names, since we never had a bad encounter. One tall male staff member would stand at attention as our family came through the corridor for breakfast, make a trumpet sound and say, “Mr. President.” He had me cracking up and made a fun start to the day. We had live music at the bar one night; the entertainer was good and engaged with us, even letting my friend get on the mic and sing. Mohammed, the bartender, was the star. For three nights straight he looked after us, picked up on our different tastes and kept everyone smiling. Bar service was top-notch throughout the stay. Breakfast was pretty good. The omelet station cooks were quick and accommodating, and because we stayed more than three nights we had our own reserved table. Nobody mentioned it on the first day, but we got it sorted without any trouble. There was as much prosecco/sekt as you needed to get the day going, plus a juicer for making your own fruit juice. We enjoyed the spa and sauna rooms, and took the kids to the pool. It wasn’t very big, but it suited us and wasn’t crowded. We found a public beach by the lake near the property and enjoyed the cool water. You could put your SUP in there. We didn’t rent the available bikes, though I could see them being a great addition to a vacation in the area. We went downtown for dinner twice. The buses didn’t show up according to the schedule, so we walked instead. It wasn’t a bad walk, maybe 20 minutes. Thanks to the staff for the dinner recommendations. A couple of things could have made the stay better. Construction right outside our room, including a large crane and front-end loader, obstructed our mountain view and made some noise in the mornings. If you’re visiting soon, maybe ask for a lakeside room or one without that issue. Also, there were small fruit flies around the wine dispenser nozzles, which put us off trying the wines. We bought our own bottles at the store to enjoy on the balcony.

The bar was a nice place to unwind, and the staff were helpful. I especially liked the range of gins, including some local Algau ones, after all the beer. We also got to Neuschwanstein castle early since we were staying nearby, before it became too busy. We stayed two nights with our two kids. The family room worked really well: a spacious main room with a little lounge area and balcony, plus a separate small bedroom with big bunk beds. After a long day, we used the outdoor pool twice to relax and look at the mountains. There was also a small honesty bar in the spa area for drinks. We had half board. Breakfast had plenty of variety, and my daughter loved the unusual rhubarb juice as well as the pastries, breads, and preserves. Dinner was good too, especially the starter and salad buffet. We tried the tomahawk steak one evening, and it was worth the €50 supplement.
