Motel Zum Schweizerbartl

One thing to keep in mind: arrive too late in the evening and the doors will be locked, so you won’t be able to check in. The website says the restaurant is only open for breakfast, but in August it was open all day, officially until 20:00, with service sometimes continuing after that.

Zum Schweizerbart is easy to find, with convenient parking, and the staff made us feel welcome. It’s a quiet hotel, and our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. A cute place to stay while visiting Garmish. I recommend it.

It was a very strange and disappointing checkout. The breakfast tables were set and several rooms, including ours, had reservations, but there was nobody in the building to serve breakfast or check us out. Five guests were waiting. After 45 minutes a cleaning woman arrived and tried calling someone, but no one answered. Since they only take cash, we weren’t willing to leave payment on an unattended counter. We eventually had to leave because we were already late for our event. That threw off our schedule, and later we spent another 40 minutes coming back to find someone to pay. After we pressed the buzzer three or four times, a man stumbled out of the front door, laughed off what had happened, and took our money. The whole thing was bizarre.

We’d happily stay and eat at Gasthof Zum Schweizerbartl again anytime. The place was very clean and tastefully decorated, and the owner went out of his way to accommodate our family in the middle of the night, making sure we were happy without charging extra. A very positive experience for us. We give it five out of five stars. Greetings from Canada.
