The breakfast was probably the best I’ve had at a hotel. There was lots of choice, and the quality was excellent. The scrambled eggs were a highlight, more like what you’d get at a very good restaurant than the usual dry, lumpy hotel version. Santa even stopped by to hand out free chocolate Santas. The staff were polite and friendly, and made us feel welcome. Our room was large and warm, with an amazing mountain view, and the whole trip was the most relaxing of my year. The shower was powerful and hot, and much of the furniture seemed handmade, giving the room an authentic feel. I did find the bed itchy, though wearing a T-shirt stopped it. Maybe something about the sheets or detergent didn’t agree with my skin. Underground tunnels connect the resort, so in winter you can avoid the icy paths, which were ice-free thanks to the excellent maintenance team. The hotel is conveniently a 10-minute walk from the Olympic Park. I can hardly think of a bad thing to say and would consider staying again next time we’re in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The kids made good use of both the indoor playroom and the outdoor playground. Our room was large and comfortable, with plenty of space for the family. The facilities aren’t new, but they’re well maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Breakfast and dinner buffets were tasty and had a good range of options. Drinks were on the expensive side.

The room service was a letdown. When we asked for paper towels, we were told nobody could bring them up, so we had to get them ourselves from reception in a different building. The location is great if you have a car; without one, there’s a nearby bus stop with hourly service to the city center. Our suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a stunning view of the Alps that we especially enjoyed from the balcony in the afternoons. The furniture was a little old, but suited the hotel’s vintage feel. Breakfast offered a good variety, though I would have liked more vegan choices.

The rooms were very cold, and the heaters only seemed to get warm enough just as we were leaving. The TV and other facilities were old. Still, the price was okay for what you get, and breakfast was alright. The food overall was very average, with some salads and other cold dishes clearly stale. Getting to our apartment was a hassle: the hotel building’s door was under construction, so we had to take the right underground tunnel and walk up and down several flights of stairs, a 15-minute detour. They also don’t rent rackets for the tennis courts. At dinner, the head waiter seemed lost, or maybe had too many beers. He tried to turn me away before I could sit down because he’d mixed up the booking, and argued before checking his system. If you choose this place, don’t get bored and go elsewhere for food.
