I’ve stayed in hotels all over Europe through Booking.com and have the top Genius level, but I’ve never been treated this way. I turned up a few hours before check-in after working 24 hours straight. I know early access isn’t guaranteed, but basic courtesy still matters. I was told from upstairs that I couldn’t come in and had to wait outside in nearly 30°C heat until the exact check-in time, even though the parking lot was empty. The communication felt cold and unwelcoming. I never got to see the room, bathroom, or cleanliness, so I can’t comment on those. Very disappointing.

The room was clean and the mattresses comfortable, and the hotel replied quickly whenever I had questions. There’s a fan in the room, though no air con. We got in late and left early on our trip from Croatia to the UK, so I can’t say much about the view. The area looked peaceful and quiet.

The little restaurant inside was closed, which was a minor inconvenience, but there was a good alternative five minutes away. Check-in was a bit tricky. Apart from that, everything at the hotel was perfect, and it was a really great five-star stop for one night.

I never got a door code, and the phone number just went to voicemail. The information on the door wasn’t much help once I was already there. Update: The hotel has disputed this review twice as “defamation,” and it was automatically removed both times. I had plenty of proof and knew enough about German laws to appeal, so it was restored each time. Most people probably leave it at that. I think this means many negative reviews get deleted this way, so the hotel’s rating may be higher than it really should be.
