1280 Krone

The basement bar was a fun surprise, with some really good cocktails, and breakfast was a treat since everything was made fresh to order. This is a boutique hotel in a small town out in the countryside, but it feels close to luxury without being too expensive. I liked the rooms, though a few of the interior design choices were unexpected.

Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and the staff were kind and patient with us since we don’t speak German. They even showed us the way to our rooms. I loved how the original building was paired with modern finishes, and there were thoughtful little details and special features all over. It felt cozy and comfortable, and we’d definitely stay here again if we’re back in the area.

The staff were outstanding and happy to talk about the building’s history and renovations. I didn’t expect a 740-year-old place to feel so warm and welcoming, but it really did. Of the three very different hotels my wife and I tried on our Black Forest trip, 1280 Krone was the best. The rooms are huge, rugged and beautifully done, with the modern conveniences you’d expect and a wonderfully soft, comfortable bed. The open bathroom can feel awkward if you want a private moment, though your partner or family can head to the four-level deck or the underground bar. The town itself is small but was surprisingly noisy at night. The windows blocked the sound pretty well, but it was warm, and with no air conditioning we had to leave them open. We knew that ahead of time and brought a fan. The Edeka grocery store just a few blocks away was by far the best we’ve ever seen.

The staff were lovely and clearly proud of the hotel. We only stayed one night, but I wanted to write about it as soon as we got back. The renovation is stunning, with thoughtful design, luxurious touches, and clever reuse of original materials that respects the building’s history. Nothing seems to have been overlooked. It’s a beautiful example of local history and a great place for anyone who appreciates architecture, design, or good taste. Hotel 1280 Krone is perfectly placed between the Black Forest and Lake Constance. If either is on your itinerary, I’d strongly recommend giving it a try. We came away with special memories.
