Hotel Leipziger Land

The host couple were so friendly, and we had a nice chat with them over breakfast. There was plenty to choose from, including 30+ jams, tasty rolls, and boiled eggs, even though the breakfast wasn't lavish. Hotel Leipziger Land is showing its age, as you'd expect from a place dating to the 1990s, but it was remarkably clean and well kept, with spotless bathrooms and spacious bedrooms. Arriving late at night was no issue, we picked up the key at the adjacent pub. Good value for money, and Geithain is a beautiful town that's well worth visiting.

The room and breakfast were good. I can't write about what goes on in the hotel because reviews are monitored. Definitely avoid this place. I'll report the owner. What's happening here is completely unacceptable.

We paid €100 for two people for a double room with breakfast by booking directly on the hotel website, which I'd recommend. The rooms are large, the hotel is simple and lovely, and some bathrooms have natural light. Everything was very clean, there's free underground parking, and breakfast was plentiful for a hotel of this size. We counted 90 sweet spreads! :) Geithain's a lovely little town, even though many shops in the old town have closed. There are still lots of bakeries, and Bakery Sachse has typical Saxon cakes at excellent value. There are charming home decor shops and small boutiques, too. You can find one restaurant in the old town and several along the city wall. Kids can visit a small zoo, free with a donation, or a petting zoo, and there's a park as well. The local history museum and the underground tunnels are fascinating. You can visit the tunnels after registering. There's also plenty to do nearby, including lakes for swimming and an outdoor pool within walking distance. For excursions, there's Rochlitz Mountain with its porphyry quarry, Rochlitz Castle with a café and old town, and the Sensory Maze in Frohburg, which has a café and is fun for all ages. Leipzig and Chemnitz are 30-45 minutes away by car, just to name a few options.

We loved the breakfast. Even though the hotel was almost empty while we were there, they hadn't cut back the selection. They had everything except scrambled eggs, with a huge choice of sweet spreads in particular. There were over 20 jams and over 20 kinds of honey, though sadly we didn't get to try them all. We'll sample more next time. 😉 We had a triple room with an extra bed. It was very spacious, with a decent-sized bathroom and a closet that had enough room for our things, so we didn't have to live out of our suitcases. The room did get quite warm. With 30 degrees Celsius outside and no air conditioning, that was to be expected, just like at home.
