Ibis Styles Gelsenkirchen

The staff welcomed us and were helpful at both check-in and check-out, and our room was clean. The place was okay for an overnight stop, but disappointing. We’ve stayed at other Ibis Styles with much better rooms for less money. This one has little style, with the same decor and furniture as an ordinary Ibis, and the whole establishment looks tired and badly in need of refurbishment.

The bathroom fan was very loud but didn’t clear the moisture properly, so the towels stayed damp. Breakfast was rather poor, too. When we arrived, we were told that the water would be off for about seven hours on one of the days. I think we should have been told in advance and offered another solution.

The room was comfortable, and the soundproof windows kept out the noise from the busy road. Breakfast was okay. The hotel is near the railway station, but when walking over from there, we couldn’t find a sign pointing to the entrance.

The closed windows blocked out the rowdy parties and people revving their engines at two in the morning. The town centre is convenient for travellers, but exceptionally loud. The room was clean and compact, just right for a simple overnight stay with the windows shut.
