Hotel Germersheimer Hof

Breakfast was fantastic, and there’s a great German restaurant within walking distance. Getting in after 6:30 pm was the difficult bit, since you have to use the back door. That could be hard for older guests. Otherwise, everything was great.

The breakfast was very good, about what you’d get at a chain hotel, and this is a small bed-and-breakfast style place. My room was small and had a single bed, so those are still an option here. There aren’t many power outlets either. If you like charging a laptop and USB devices by the bed, bring an extension cord. I would have rated it four stars, but one major issue changed that. The owners lock up at 6 pm and can’t be reached afterward. Arriving later means finding somewhere else to stay, and if you lose your outside key or have an emergency, there’s no posted after-hours number. I couldn’t find one on the building, Google, Facebook, or the hotel website. I booked through my company’s official travel agent, which didn’t mention the 6 pm check-in cutoff. I’ve travelled for work for 10 years and never run into this, so I didn’t know to call ahead. It would be helpful if the hotel contacted guests booked through corporate agents to explain the policy.

The reception staff were very friendly, and the room was clean with a big TV. Breakfast was outstanding, and there’s a good Italian restaurant next door. Wi-Fi was free but capped at 3 GB per day, which should be enough for most people. I only stayed one night, so I can’t comment on room service. I’d recommend it.

It’s a simple, clean hotel in a good area, with friendly staff. Breakfast is included, and there’s an Italian restaurant next door. Just know that what they call a king bed is two double beds pushed together, with a gap in the middle.
