Seehotel am Stausee

The hotel and wellness area were pleasant, but we accidentally left a book and Kindle there and they were stolen. I suspect they may have been taken by cleaning staff. Getting an answer from the hotel was difficult: my email went unanswered, and after two phone calls I was told the cleaners had looked and found nothing. We know exactly where we left them. Such a shame.

We had dinner at the restaurant every night and enjoyed it. The menu changes daily, and you have to choose each morning between the vegetarian and non-vegetarian option so they can prepare dinner. It comes with soup, salad from the salad bar, a main course and dessert. The hotel is near a lovely lake and about a 20-minute walk from the town center. Parking is free, and most areas are wheelchair accessible. There’s an elevator, though some rooms can only be reached by stairs. We stayed three nights. Our room was clean and had nearly everything we needed. Breakfast had a good range of choices, and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful, even though some didn’t speak much English. We used the pool once. It’s quite shallow, and towels, slippers and bathrobes were provided in the room for swimming.

The food in the restaurant was good, and the reception staff were especially thoughtful. We mentioned we’d miss Sunday breakfast, which starts at 08:00, and they prepared free bags with bread, fruit and drinks for the three of us. They were waiting in our rooms when we got back from dinner. That kind of service makes a hotel stand out, and I’d return. We stayed in rooms 47, 44 and 43, all of which looked nice and very clean, including the bathrooms. The interiors seemed to have been updated recently, though I can’t speak for the other rooms. Rooms 47 and, I think, 44 had lovely mountain and lake views and a pleasant terrace. I’m not sure every room has been renovated, but the ones with balconies looked very nice. Parking was easy. The hotel itself doesn’t look great from outside, but the surroundings are lovely, with mountains, forest and a lake right in front. The lake isn’t for swimming.

The spa was cosy, and the saunas were well done. A really nice hotel with great service.
