There was so much hiking and sightseeing nearby that we were worn out by evening. We rented both apartments, which were nicely and practically furnished with nearly everything we needed. The owners were friendly and offered tips on trails, sights, and places to eat. We enjoyed their own honey at breakfast and would gladly return. The lack of a TV seemed strange at first, but we didn’t miss it, with such a big choice of books, audiobooks, and board games.

For summer, the two apartments are spacious and clean, with a barbecue area and access to the basement “garden.” The owners were hard to reach despite living in the building, and didn’t answer knocks or the bell. The friendly landlord couldn’t make up for his wife’s unfriendly, indifferent manner. The cold was a major problem. The apartments didn’t warm up before 8 a.m.; the heating was turned down during the day until evening, then it cooled again overnight. On weekend mornings there was no hot water before 9. For the first two days, the thermometer showed no more than 15°C in the morning and 19°C at best during the day. Have you tried filling a bath with a kettle and three little pots? Repairs took repeated requests, three days and two emails. The upstairs stove was broken, and they only replied after three days. It just needed the circuit breaker reset, which we understandably couldn’t access. The upstairs bathtub was broken too, with all the paint gone, and you had to be careful not to hurt your back. The internet was too weak for both apartments to stream TV at once. We needed to work online from home, but only one of us could be connected at a time. There’s no TV, which seems unbelievable in Germany and should be standard even in the cheapest accommodation. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The so-called children’s beds were low and unsuitable for adults, despite being advertised that way. The narrow, steep spiral staircase is difficult for older guests. All the walls are whitewashed, so brushing your clothes against them, unavoidable on the stairs, leaves them white.

The apartments were spacious and clean for our week-long holiday. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, right beside the forest, and the landlords were very nice.

Step outside the cabin and you’re practically in the woods. The owners are very friendly and understanding if something gets damaged. I’d happily stay there again.
