The older couple looking after the place are nice and try their best, but there really should be more staff for cleaning and maintenance. The furniture is old, the walls need repainting, and the rooms were freezing because there was no heating. In the second building some windows wouldn't shut fully, so cold came in at night even when the heating was started. They don't clean the rooms daily, though staff do come in to empty the trash each day. On one visit they left hair in the sink, a very weird present. After 8 pm there's no staff to be found, and the main door, reception, and kitchen are locked. Bring cups and a bottle opener. They also turn off the hall lights, so take a flashlight if you'll arrive late. It's impossible to get water during the night. At breakfast, some rooms don't have a cup, so bring a small bottle that fits under the tap or cup your hands. The staff only speak German, no English. Breakfast was very plain and the same each day. No eggs, sausages, yoghurt, fruit, or vegetables, just bread, three kinds of salami, one kind of generic cheese, and butter packs. There was muesli with milk and sweet bread with jam, but no tea or water, just very light coffee. The water pressure was alright and there was hot water.

The host left our keys at the back door so we could check ourselves in when we arrived at 1 am. In the morning we paid and headed off. The guest house is easy to reach, close to the highway in a small town, yet it's quiet. Our room was clean, the beds were okay for a one night stay, and the slightly outdated decor had a bit of atmosphere. A good place for a night.

The village isn't especially lively, though there are a few other hotel restaurants with great food. The hotel itself is dark and old fashioned, and a renovation to make the building more modern would make it perfect. Service was friendly, if not the fastest. It's fine as a stop on the way to Austria, and the room, while not spacious, worked well for a night. The bathroom had a certain smell, which we noticed on the street too, so perhaps it's a local sewage issue.

The toilet was extremely dirty, yellow, with sticky stuff around it, and there was a mushroom above the bathroom. The beds weren't clean either. One pillow was half red, and one of the beds was just a mattress on the floor. There were stains from people's hair on the walls. The rooms look really nice on Booking, but when you arrive you might think your reserved room is in a different building. Definitely wouldn't recommend the place.
