The gravy and dumpling were lovely, and the service was great, but the meat was dry and tough. My husband and I had been looking forward to this famous Franken dish, so we called ahead and ordered one each because it often sells out. I think ours may have been kept warm for a while. It was disappointing, especially since we don’t eat it often, it was a special occasion, and it wasn’t cheap.

We were tired and hungry after coming from Copenhagen, and most restaurants had already closed their kitchens. It was a Monday around 9 p.m. in July, so we called Gasthof Zum Bayerischen. The man said they were about to close, but offered to wait and make their special sausages for us. We arrived ten minutes later and the food was already served. The sausages were really good. Perfect service, and I’d recommend the place to anyone.

Too bad it was too early to get something to eat. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, with lots of oldies.

The square has a lovely view, especially in summer, and the salad buffet gives you something to enjoy while waiting. It’s a decent dinner spot in Greding, which works well for travellers because it’s near the motorway. I’d have liked more salt and a bit more thought in the presentation to bring out the Wiener Schnitzel’s flavour. It wasn’t disappointing, but if you’re used to spices, you may find it bland. You can, of course, add salt yourself.

A lovely little spot for a bite and a drink in Greding’s beautiful old quarter. The goulash soup is fantastic, so give it a try.
