Jagdhof Klein Heilig Kreuz

Really lovely setting, and the place was clean. We had a great time.

Service was poor.

The espresso was hot and had good flavor, but that was about the only part of lunch we enjoyed. Our party of four ate at the fully booked Jagdhof on Sunday, and the service felt polite but detached. When we asked for toothpicks, they brought a glass of loose ones rather than individually wrapped toothpicks. It left us wondering who might have handled them or put used ones back. The food came in exactly 10 minutes, which made us question how much care could have gone into it. The schnitzels were soft and partly sinewy, with bland mushroom sauce and sticky breading coming away from the meat. Their fries were crisp but had no taste. The boiled beef was half cold and sinewy, the sour green sauce was too sharp, and the lentil pasta had very little flavor. Nothing looked carefully prepared, and the meal wasn't worth the price. This was the third time we'd had this kind of experience there, so we won't be back. I still don't understand why the place gets so crowded.

We were well looked after during our weekend stay with our dogs and their owners. It was cold and rainy, but we could warm up in the restaurant whenever we wanted. The food was very good, and we really enjoyed the generous breakfast. The only small letdown was the basket, which had just a few little rolls and could've been replenished more. We'll definitely come back.
