Gästehaus Pension Heß - Das kleine Hotel

The staff were nice, but the room was in the basement and very dated. With old carpet everywhere, the air felt musty. There were broken bathroom tiles, and cigarette smoke kept coming into my room from someone smoking in the hallway or the room above. I told the staff twice, but nothing changed. The bed was tiny and squeaked whenever I moved, and anyone over 180cm tall would find it unsuitable. Breakfast had very little choice. On Sunday the rolls seemed to be from the day before, and tasted stale too. They were cheap, pre-baked rolls. With the MeLa on, the prices were probably higher, but either way it was poor value. Paying the bill in advance also seemed very unusual, presumably so you couldn't just cancel if you didn't like the place.

The Hess family are very friendly, and Ms. Wedel, the housekeeper, is both kind and attentive to cleanliness. The staff are welcoming and accommodating, and breakfast is very good. If you have a special request, just tell them the day before and they’ll take care of it. Anything broken in the room gets fixed right away. It's a lovely little hotel, though you do have to climb several steps to get there.

We’d be happy to come back. It’s a peaceful, comfortable hotel with rooms that are a good size. The breakfast buffet has plenty of choice for a good start to the day, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The owner is just as welcoming and clearly cares about guests having a good stay.

Breakfast was very good, and special requests can be prepared for the next day. At €10, it's also good value. This is a lovely guesthouse with nicely sized rooms and Wi-Fi. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and they deal with requests promptly.
