Landgasthof Haus zur Sonne

A nice place.

The food was a highlight for our group of 14: I’d booked half-board, and each evening there was a buffet with soup, salad, several meat dishes, sides, and dessert. Breakfast was generous too. After our motorcycle rides in lovely weather, we could unwind at the hotel bar, and on Saturday Kai showed us around his home region on small, winding roads, passing the Rhine-Weser Tower and Biggesee lake with its legendary Bigge Grill. We had to head home Sunday, but would happily return. We stayed three nights in mid-April at the "Haus zur Sonne" country inn in Hesborn, arriving late with nine motorcycles and a car. Kai, the owner, and Simone (Mörchen) still gave us a really warm, relaxed welcome and were helpful throughout. There’s plenty of parking, including a double garage for eight large motorcycles and a paved, level area suitable for motorcycle trailers. The hotel and its grounds are very well cared for. It was too cool to enjoy the beer garden or terrace, unfortunately. Our rooms were bright, roomy, functional, clean, and tidy, and our bathroom had just been renovated. Many thanks to the Guntermann family and the whole team for a wonderful stay.

We used to enjoy bowling and relaxing there, but the last two visits were very disappointing. On the visit before our most recent one, we were racially abused while paying, and staff tried to claim card payments weren’t possible. We came back with a larger group most recently. At payment time, the chef didn’t know what each person had ordered and wasn’t willing to check so he could make an accurate bill. Unfortunately, they were very, very unfriendly.

At the end, they wouldn’t give us a receipt. The waitresses were aloof and never seemed to know what we wanted to drink. The service was overly friendly in a way that felt unpleasant. Best regards to the tax office.
