a&o Hamburg Hammer Kirche

The reception service was great, five stars for that. At checkout they even offered me a complimentary coffee, which really brightened a cold winter morning. The room was OK for a budget hotel, though it didn’t feel that affordable compared with well-known hotel chains. Even with all the windows closed, it didn’t seem properly sealed, and I felt cold air on my face all night.

The price was reasonable, and the rooms were clean. Staff were very polite and helpful. I’d definitely recommend it.

My stay at a&o Hammer Kirche was quiet, and the staff were very friendly. I’ve usually had good experiences with a&o, so this location was a real letdown compared with the others. The room was mostly OK and the bed comfortable, but the toilet cistern leaked after flushing. I reported it and someone checked, yet it happened again later that evening. My husband found a way to stop it temporarily. There was also mold in the shower corners. On the last night, a spider about 2cm across appeared from behind the curtain. I’m not sure that could have been prevented, but luckily we were awake and it didn’t get into our belongings. I often avoided the lift, even though our room was on the 5th floor, because it felt very unsafe and was quite dirty. One lift had a swastika scratched into the wall. I know it may be hard to remove completely, but please cover it with something. It’s very disturbing to see. I hope this feedback helps improve things for future guests.

We had a good stay, and breakfast was good too. Ahmed at reception in the morning gave us some very good suggestions for things to see in the city.
