Holiday Inn - The Niu, Quay Hamburg Harburg By IHG

I slept very comfortably and woke refreshed, full of energy. The room was spacious, clean, and well maintained, with adjustable temperature control and a large, comfortable bathroom. Food was simple, tasty, and filling, and staff were always polite and attentive. The service was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Reception is open 24/7, the free Wi-Fi worked well throughout my stay, and my invoice was ready as soon as I arrived, saving time in the morning. Nearby construction didn't cause any inconvenience and seemed close to finishing. Good value for money, and an excellent experience!

The hotel is modern, the rooms seemed clean from what I could see, and breakfast was alright. The location is okay if your plans are in Harburg, but it's 25 minutes by taxi from Hamburg central train station. At the time of writing, there was construction noise and parking trouble because a building was going up right beside the hotel. I booked for business and called ahead to say I'd be checking in late. I was glad to hear from the employee that reception welcomes guests 24/7. But when I arrived, another employee demanded payment upfront, even though my company's reservation portal showed it had already been paid. My colleague had brought my luggage to their luggage room, so I couldn't prove payment then and had to pay for the room, even though my colleague never had to pay. At checkout the next day, I hoped another receptionist could sort it out. Since I'd paid by credit card, I expected a direct refund, but was told accounting had to greenlight it. Three weeks later, they still hadn't refunded the overpaid booking. The service was uncoordinated and unhelpful once something went wrong with the booking.

There was no hot water, and construction started at 6am. Everything was falling apart, the manager was hiding, and there was no compensation. Avoid this at all costs. It ruined my two-day stay in Hamburg.
