Holiday Inn - the niu, Yen Hamburg City by IHG

The fast check-in, quality amenities, and secure, ample parking made things easy, and the Wi-Fi stayed quick and stable when I needed to work. I also loved the breakfast, with plenty of fresh choices, and every meal I had was flavorful and nicely prepared. The room was modern, spotless, roomy, and peaceful, with a really comfortable bed. The staff were professional and friendly, and management had everything running smoothly. It felt like great value, and I’d happily come back and recommend it to friends and family.

I expected more room than we got. The so-called reading table was only 20cm wide. There wasn’t even a 0.1ml or 0.3ml welcome drink, and no in-room coffee, tea bags, or anything for people who wake up wanting coffee or tea before breakfast. Sure, there’s a bar downstairs, but it’d be nice to have those little extras included without going down and swiping our cards again, whatever the charge might be. You can do better.

The beds and room facilities were good, but the basics for a drink were missing. There was no mineral water, mini fridge, drinking cup, or coffee machine, which left me feeling as if guests were only meant to sleep there and leave. My partner and I realized after booking that we’d picked the wrong one, since there are two hotels with the same name. The subway is more than a ten-minute walk away, and there aren’t many decent restaurants nearby. We had to walk twenty minutes to find one. I felt awful about the choice and wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re looking for a Holiday Inn. Double-check which one you’re booking.

We found most of the staff very welcoming when we arrived, and they shared useful tips for seeing the city. Public transport is close, though the area around the hotel feels industrial and has few restaurants. The rooms were clean, but quite small, with only limited amenities. For the price, it’s a good hotel.
