Hotel Stadt Hameln

The hotel’s spot by the Weser made for a pretty view and an easy walk to the old town, which added to the pleasant atmosphere. Service was attentive and the staff tried to be friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a satisfactory range of options. I was there for a seminar, and although overnight stays were priced uniformly, room sizes and amenities varied. Some rooms were less comfortable than others. More consistency in room facilities would make the guest experience more even. Still, the attentive service and pleasant surroundings helped make those drawbacks less noticeable during the seminar.

The family ownership shows in how well cared for everything is and in the thoughtful feel of the place. It has a nice balance of classic and modern, and the location is good. We stayed for a weekend seminar and found the hotel nice overall. The receptionist, who felt like the most important person in the hotel chain, was unfriendly and didn’t make me feel welcome at all. That’s why I took off a star.

The room was roomy and had a very old-fashioned feel. My main letdown was the pillows: they looked fluffy but were actually very thin. Breakfast could have been better maintained too, with the buffet replenished more often and tables cleaned or cleared more promptly. I stayed one night. Since my company covered the cost, I can’t judge whether it was good value.

I don't believe Irma Grese's body was ever exhumed. After her trial she spent a couple of days here, then went straight to the gallows. Her body rested in the courtyard of this prison, now a hotel. Poor girl. Rest in peace, Irma :)
