The proprietor was a lovely host. She asked at check-in when I wanted breakfast, and the next morning there was a generous spread of meat, cheese, bread, and juice waiting for me. They also sorted out a mistaken double charge from booking.com and checkout quickly once I contacted them. Staying in a roughly 900-year-old castle was a treat, and I could wander around the grounds, inside and outside the walls, even though most of the castle was closed to visitors. The room was comfortable beyond what I expected, with enough modern touches, good heat, hot water, a decent shower, and reliable wi-fi. The bed was comfy, though it creaked a lot. There was no AC, which was fine in winter. If you're after lots of luxury, an old castle may not be for you.

The fortress walking tour was a lot of fun, and all four of us were very happy with dinner. We had curry wurst, turkey and gravy, beef salad, and a pork dish, and everything was excellent. The room was basic, but had plenty of charm, and the stay in this ancient landmark and fortress complex was wonderful.

Park Suite, Room 5 was airy, bright, spacious, and very comfortable, with a modern bathroom. I couldn't pass up the chance to stay in the castle. The only thing that really bothered me was the swarm of wasps in the breakfast room. Parking was confusing at first: the sign says vehicles aren't allowed and points you to a public lot up the road, but hotel guests can actually park in the castle courtyard. From there, it's a short, steep walk down to the village, where there are good places to eat. The castle also has a restaurant.

The beds were good and the price fair, but the rooms seemed rushed and unfinished. Our room's view wasn't great either. Breakfast was limited, and the staff were slow. There's room for improvement.

I stayed there for three weeks. The people were very pleasant and helpful, and the hotel was clean and quiet. My only small complaint is that breakfast at 7:30 AM was half an hour too late for me to get to work in Donauworth by 8:00 AM.
