Hotel des Nordens Flensburg Wellness & Spa

We had a swim with our baby, which was great since kids were welcome. The pool was nice but very cold, so we enjoyed a quick dip outside in the sun rather than staying in the water long. The jacuzzi was warm and lovely. We stopped here for one night after our Denmark holiday. It's right by the border and easy to find. The staff were very nice and thoughtfully upgraded our room for free, placing us near the pool and restaurant because they thought that would be easier with a baby.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive, and they really lifted the experience. The spa and pool were a highlight too, clean and well cared for, a welcome change from the dated feel elsewhere. We didn't try the textile-free sauna, but it deserves a respectful mention. Breakfast was included, covered the basics, and was regularly replenished. This is a convenient base just south of the Danish-German border for road trips and short hikes, with Wassersleben beach within walking distance. We genuinely enjoyed our stay despite the faded surroundings and the sense the hotel has been left mostly unattended since Nixon's visit in 1981. The walkability isn't great, and with the fast traffic a car is definitely helpful. It's overdue for a facelift, but with realistic expectations there's still some charm in its faded glory.

We booked two nights through two different providers and gave all the details at check-in. We were assured everything was fine and we wouldn't need to switch rooms. After the first night, reception called to scold us for not checking out. Receptionist Dana was very unprofessional and commanding, ordering us out of the room. We eventually got another room in a different building. As returning clients, we expected more respect and a more professional way of resolving the mix-up. We feel we didn't get what we paid for.

The presidential suite was spacious, clean, and lovely, with plenty of room and a big terrace. The outside of the building looks very old-fashioned, but the suite itself didn't. You still get a real key to open the door! Parking in front of the hotel is free. Breakfast was okay, and the swimming pool and sauna were a nice way to refresh after a long drive.
