Hotel Habichtstein

The price is definitely too high for what the hotel offers. We came back because of the website photos, which show how it used to look, but it's nothing like that now. The old, charming half-timbered building and large restaurant are gone. The place is supposedly "under renovation," but we saw no work happening. The newer wing is open, with a temporary reception where the medical/spa used to be. Everything feels disorganized, as if the property has "given up" and is barely keeping some rooms available. If you stayed here years ago and hope for the same experience, forget it.

It's in a really nice location, and the rooms are comfortable, but the Spa is only average. The Restaurant is really bad. The vegetables weren't fresh, they seemed frozen, and the soup and sauces weren't homemade. You can taste it. If you want fresh, healthy food, you'd be better off cooking at home.

The Wi-Fi is very scarce, and the menu is quite limited. Still, it's a quiet, quaint hotel in the middle of the Harz mountains. The rooms are modern and very spacious, and there are a pool, steam room, and sauna.

The setting is great, just across the street from the station in Alexisbad. You can sit and watch the steam trains come and go. Breakfast is mediocre, though, so save the money and get it somewhere else.
