A beautiful tavern perched above a cliff in Northern Franconia. Great for walks, with outdoor adventure activities attached.

The terrace view over the valley is breathtaking, from a cliff about 150 (?) meters up. The food is typical German, reasonably priced, and fair in taste, but the scenery is what earns the five stars. It’s a must-visit. It’s tucked away, so expect a five-minute walk through a glorious forest on a well-paved, pebbly path between tall trees and an adventure camp before you reach the restaurant.

The food and rooms are both very reasonably priced. The kitchen serves tasty traditional dishes from Franconia and Germany. It’s a cosy place, a bit like a cottage or Alpine mountain hut, or maybe a small youth hostel. The simple interior feels comfortable, and the windows and terrace look out over the Franconian Switzerland.

The service and food were both great, but the dunkel beer was the best I’ve had since moving to Germany. Highly recommended!
