Heimatherz Hotel Garni

Right in the heart of Herdecke, it was easy to find somewhere for dinner and breakfast. I was there on business, and the clean bed and bathroom and comfortable mattress covered what I needed. Room 6, "Ruhrpott," was clean, nicely kept, and furnished with thoughtful details, even if it wasn't quite five-star standard. That was fine at this price, which made the hotel good value and gave it a bit of Ruhr area charm. Check-in was easy and contactless, with clear WhatsApp instructions that made arriving late convenient. Parking at the town hall was plentiful and free from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM. I also got quick, reliable answers to my questions by phone beforehand, thanks, Ms. M. I'd happily come back.

The location in town is great, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. It's a lovely little hotel, and the arrangements are clever and easy. The service and friendliness couldn't have been better. I was really pleased, and would definitely recommend it to people travelling by bicycle.

Booking and check-in were easy, and Herdecke is a lovely little town on the Ruhr River, with small shops, cafes, and pubs. The ladies from "Pasta Passion" were very kind and helped us with questions. There wasn't any hotel staff at reception, though, which was never staffed. In theory, anyone could get into the hotel and take the key to the bicycle storage room. The bicycle garage was close by, but it was really a room full of garbage bins. At around 25 degrees Celsius the smell was awful, and there was no way to lock or properly store the bikes. Not ideal for road bikes or gravel bikes. The renovated rooms had tasteful details, but ours was tiny. Its bathroom felt like a caravan wet room, and although the room was clean, the bathroom wasn't. The shower head and faucet had brown limescale on their white surfaces, the bottom of the shower curtain was already brown, and showering left the whole floor wet. The damaged door frame may have been from how hard it was to move around in there. The doors were difficult to close, so guests kept slamming them and it stayed noisy until about 10:30 pm. That could be dangerous if a child or adult gets fingers or something else caught in one. For what you get, it costs far too much. It might do for a single night, but not at this price.

I felt very comfortable here. It's a charming old house right in the pedestrian zone, but still easy to reach. Everything we needed was there, with lovely little details, and the hosts were easy to contact.
