Ringhotel Zweibrücker Hof Herdecke

The rooms are spacious, and I had a lovely view from my balcony, though the cold weather meant I didn't get to enjoy it much. A few things to know before booking: breakfast had very limited choices and the menu stayed exactly the same every day. The toilets weren't as clean as they should be, and if you forget toiletries, you have to keep going back to reception for them. Parking costs extra. There's no iron, and the TV only gets German channels, with no smart features for Netflix or Prime. The doors and walls don't block much sound either, so you can hear people walking through the common area, which can be a bit disturbing. My stay was good overall.

The area around the hotel is beautiful, and the sauna and sports room are very good. The locals there were friendly too. Otherwise, it was a mixed stay. The rooms felt off, the pillows were too soft for me, like the kind hotels can probably wash more easily, and no Netflix these days is strange. The bathroom layout was odd, with the toilet next to the heater and little space, even for someone like me who isn't big. It felt expensive for what you got, especially compared with other places. Breakfast wasn't great either: cold bacon and eggs, pushy servers who watched what you ate, and generally an unpleasant atmosphere.

We only had one night here on a family road trip and wished we could've stayed longer to explore. The riverside location is lovely, with a beer garden for the afternoon and mini golf for around 3€. The restaurant was good, breakfast was excellent, and the room was modern, clean, and really nice. Parking was easy on site, 8€ for the garage or, I think, 4€ outside. It all felt like a four-star hotel or better, and was very affordable. No complaints, really. A slightly warmer, more lively greeting at check-in would be a small improvement.

The staff were very friendly, and most of them spoke English. I also liked the restaurant area and really enjoyed breakfast. The activities they offer kept me entertained, and there's a river and walking paths right nearby. It's an older hotel, though, and I do expect air conditioning in the rooms I book, maybe I'm a little spoiled. You still use an actual key to get into the room. The beds were harder than I like, and the towels were rough and pretty sparse. Still, you might enjoy your stay.
