Hotel Alt Westerholt

Room 303 was spacious, very clean, well designed and soundproofed, with hardly any street noise. I did hear the occasional church bell from St Martinus church next door. The towels and linen were fresh, and check-in was hassle-free at 4 pm. Since checkout is at 2 pm, I couldn't really complain about the timing. Still, I had to think this one over. I wouldn't call it a good four-star stay. If half-stars were an option, maybe a 3.5. There are only four parking spaces for 15 rooms, which is inconvenient. At 100€ a night, not having complimentary bottled water in the room is a no-go for me. The room lighting could be better, if the old building and wiring allow it, and the Wi-Fi signal was so poor that it was hard to use, despite being encouraged to enjoy it. Small maintenance details need attention too: the shower door's rubber seals let water onto the floor, which took two towels and a lot of wringing to dry. There should also be enough tissues and soap in the dispenser. The pillows felt too small to support my head and neck properly, and I woke up with a stiff neck. Most of these things seem fixable. The room was good, but the irritating problems bring it down to a three for me.

The rooms are upgraded, clean and roomy, with free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and cable that includes English channels, which is hard to find in Germany. There's no AC or elevator, so pack light. The neighborhood is quiet, and a beautiful church next door rings its bell every few hours. The hallways have an old-fashioned, quaint feel. Good room for the price.

A dog-friendly hotel that works well for an overnight stop. There are two restaurants just a short walk away, both serving good German food.

Right in the historic old town, this is a small place with clean, inexpensive rooms. They're small too, and the church around the corner rings regularly.
