"Ottendorfer Hütte" - Bergwirtschaft

The Alpine hut atmosphere was just what I liked. It's a great spot to rest near the Malerweg, with very comfortable rooms, delicious dinner, and a really good breakfast. I'll definitely return.

The workers were nice, and they made us a really tasty vegan dinner, which we appreciated. But our big shared room hadn't been cleaned. We found dried contact lenses and bottle caps left by previous guests. It felt like paying over 65€ for a couple in a shared hostel room got us just a roof, four walls, a mattress, and a shelf. Nothing was included: no fridge or microwave, and even things you'd expect, like hot water in the shared bathroom, a mattress cover, pillows, and blankets, cost extra. We were even charged more to pack a sandwich from the breakfast buffet. Breakfast itself had very few options, not even Nutella. It didn't feel worth the money.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed the food and breakfast. There aren't many places to get food along Painters Path, so we could make lunch bags with sandwiches and fruit. Bring your own silk sleeping bag, though the hut can supply sheets and pillows for a little extra.

The restaurant was excellent, the bathrooms were spotless, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It's a comfortable, simple place for a couple of nights, though I'm not sure I'd want to stay much longer. Breakfast was plentiful but fairly basic, with an upgraded version available for extra cost. It was a bit disappointing that there was no reception or someone on standby. That may not always be needed, but I enjoy chatting with the people running a mountain hut and getting their help or advice.
