Hotel Zum Pass

The hosts were friendly, and breakfast was adequate, but I don’t think they understood our early departure or our complaints about cleanliness. Online photos are somewhat misleading: they were taken from the garden across the road, while the hotel itself is directly on the road. The garden is poorly maintained and on the other side of the street. There’s seating there, but no service. The hotel is quite old and badly needs renovation. Our room’s carpet hadn’t been vacuumed, and the sofa was dirty. The rooms have carpet over wooden floorboards, which are very noisy, and every grout line in the bathroom had mold. We were offered a different room, but there were still hairs from previous guests on the white bedside tables. In every room I saw, there were cobwebs on the walls and ceilings.

The room was very spacious, and breakfast was delicious. Our stay at Hotel zum Pass was comfortable from arrival through our late departure the next day, and everything went smoothly. The landlady is incredibly nice and accommodating. If worn carpet doesn’t bother you, it’s a wonderful guesthouse for hikers.

A real shame. For a hotel with a restaurant, this place fell far short of what I expected: there was no food and no freshly tapped beer. You had to ask before staff would come take your order, and meals had to be pre-ordered. The whole place, inside and out, needs renovation.

We don’t know what the hotel rooms are like, since some of our group stayed in the holiday apartments next door, but we had breakfast at the hotel every morning. The buffet was generous and kept being replenished, with fruit, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs, juice, tea, coffee, bread, and rolls. After a hike, we arrived completely frozen outside regular kitchen hours. The owners immediately offered to make us goulash with noodles. It came with starter soup, coffee and tea, salad, and dessert, all at a very reasonable price. Thank you again. You don’t get that everywhere.
