Burghotel Grenzau

The fresh, tasty breakfast had plenty of options, and dinner in the beer garden by the little stream was delicious, with cold beer too. We were also glad to hear some of the town’s history at check-in, then took a short forest walk up the hill to see the ruins of a 13th century chateau. We’d booked this as a convenient stop not too far from the highway, without knowing the area. The village turned out to be beautiful, and the hosts were helpful and welcoming despite our speaking English and very little German. Inside, the hotel feels modern, the shower was good, and our room was immaculately clean. We parked for free outside in what seemed like a safe, quiet neighborhood. One of our best hotel stays in Western Europe.

The main course was really good, and the service was great. Our food arrived quickly, though the dining rooms were a bit loud. The portion felt a little small and the waffle was dry. Pricey overall.

Our room was brand new, roomy, and had space for a wardrobe. The bathroom was spotless, the shower was very good, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. I was especially happy there was no carpet because of my allergies. We had dinner and breakfast at the Landgasthof. Dinner was good and very German, while breakfast was very good, with fresh juices, tea, coffee, different breads, eggs, and spreads. Everyone was kind and accommodating, and the warm, personal welcome made us feel at ease right away. It was a lovely one-night stay in a charming spot under the Burg, by a small river. Quiet, but surprisingly close to Koblenz.

The food in the restaurant is really good, especially the Raubritter-Steak, and the service is friendly. When staff noticed we were struggling with German, they switched to English easily. Breakfast is upstairs on the first floor of the restaurant, reached by a walkway from the hotel. The hotel is in Grenzau (Höhr-Grenzhausen), beside the Brexbach stream, near the Medieval castle of Grenzau and several walking routes. The hotel itself is modern, with beautiful rooms. The restaurant is in a building from 1631 but feels just as modern. You can buy regional liquors and jams at reception. Great location, food and rooms, with friendly people. I’d happily stay again.
