The rooms are clean, functional, and spacious enough for a short stay, and the price is moderate to inexpensive. Breakfast isn’t included, but there are several nearby bakeries that deliver it. Because the Weserbergland Clinic is a neurological rehabilitation center, guests can’t simply have breakfast in its dining hall. The guesthouse sits above the clinic on the slope of Räuschenberg hill. The forest blocks what would otherwise be a breathtaking view of Höxter and the Weser Valley. We couldn’t check in after 6 PM, even though the website says weekday check-in is possible until 9 PM. They didn’t offer any way to leave a key or arrange something similar, so that evening we had to find another hotel at short notice.

There was construction at the building, and the walls were so thin. The room and bedding were dirty, the furnishings badly worn, and the balcony ran continuously around the building, so you could walk along it and look into the rooms. I honestly can’t understand the positive reviews. I seriously wonder where those people usually stay. It’s completely incomprehensible to me.

The guesthouse is in a beautiful spot, with fair prices and functional, high-quality furnishings in the room. We got a very friendly welcome, though check-in happens at the clinic, a 200-meter walk away. I can’t understand why HRS doesn’t mention that. The growing black mold in the shower is just as baffling. The curtains completely cover the radiator, which really shouldn’t happen when energy efficiency matters. That’s unwise, and it costs the place two stars from me.
