H+ Hotel Köln Hürth

The room got a bit too warm, and the air conditioning wasn’t working, so we opened a window. It would be good to get that fixed, including from a cost and energy efficiency point of view. We were really happy with the cleanliness, quiet rooms, parking included, and the very extensive breakfast with vegan choices. All of that felt good for the price we paid.

Breakfast is simple, but good and filling, and there’s plenty of free parking. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. I’d recommend the hotel if you’re visiting the Cologne Christmas market. It’s about a 20-minute drive to central Cologne.

I enjoyed the beer garden in the evening, and Aldis is within walking distance. The breakfast was delicious, and I liked the long serving hours. The place was impeccably clean. Rooms seem to vary in what they have, though. Mine had no working A/C, fan, microwave, fridge, or coffee maker, which cost it a star for me, even if it didn’t bother me too much. I did wish there’d been a fan. The fitness room had an open, gender-neutral shower room. I’m still curious what the wooden bucket was for.

The hotel refunded the full cost of my two-night stay, which I appreciate, and I know these things can happen. Still, the stress, health risk, cancelled appointments, and cost of replacing belongings left me expecting more than a refund. On the second night, I saw bedbugs crawling over the bed and took a video and photos, and managed to catch one. I’d already been uneasy the first night and barely slept, though I couldn’t tell why. I went to reception wanting a solution, but there were no other rooms. They offered the reception area for sleeping; instead, I drove three hours home in the middle of the night. I also had to throw away some belongings and take extra care with my clothes and car so I wouldn’t bring the infestation home. If you’re comfortable with the chance of a trip being cut short and only getting your money back, this may suit you. Otherwise, I’d strongly suggest staying somewhere else.
