Lodge am Oxenweg

The crows in the castle park are really irritating with all their cawing, which is a big downside. Still, this is a great holiday home for a large group, with the town center an easy walk away and the castle right nearby.

There was no emergency number available after 6 p.m., and getting the keys was handled only by phone, which made the whole arrangement feel impersonal. The room and bathroom were completely bare, without even a glass for water, and the TV didn't work. I was also concerned about getting out in a fire. The old wooden staircase to the upper floor is narrow, with dry, aged wood, and I don't think anyone could escape that way. There's a door from the room onto a porch, but no key to open it. Never again 👎

The place is attractive, clean, central, and the key handover was easy. But there aren't proper blackout curtains, and the house is so noisy that we can hear the upstairs tenants talking while they watch football. Every step seems to set off the squeaky floorboards. We wanted an early start tomorrow and can't sleep at all. The pub across the street isn't the issue tonight, the noise inside the house is. If a large group books all the rooms, this would probably work really well. For couples or smaller groups sharing the house with other groups, it's unbearable.

There’s a big shared kitchen in the basement with two fridges, two stoves, and a dishwasher. It opens onto a partly covered courtyard with plenty of places to sit, and two cars can fit there as long as the driveway stays clear. Free parking is hard to find around here. The rooms are equipped as advertised, each with its own bathroom, and there’s another toilet between rooms 3 and 4. The lodge is close to the shopping street and harbor, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Rooms 1, 3, and 5 face the street, though, and guests should keep in mind there’s a pub and a hairdresser/barber across from them. It seems to be a popular spot for young people, so there can be some noise from the neighbors. Places to check out: Christmas House, Brewery, Old Town with Shopping Street, and Harbor.
