After a week at this hotel, I won't be returning. One night my key wouldn't open the main door, and with nobody at reception overnight I had to find another hotel. In the morning, a nice staff member told me she'd programmed the key incorrectly. When the owner arrived, she shouted at me, called the employee stupid and said I wouldn't be reimbursed, among other things. I left immediately.

The restaurant has a fantastic view over the vineyards, and both the food and atmosphere are really good. The hours let it down, though. They're so inconvenient that you often can't get in during the morning. Three stars.

Hotel Multatuli and its lovely beer garden have been closed since August 30, 2016. Buddhist monks live there now and sometimes invite non-Buddhists to visit. The tenant has taken over the Schützenhaus restaurant in Ingelheim.

We'd never been to the Landhotel Multatuli before, but an ad for Monday's all-you-can-eat prawns persuaded me to book. The view towards Bingen, across Ingelheim and the Rhine Valley, is stunning, and we got a very friendly welcome with excellent service. Our first serving had six prawns with plenty of salad, a baked potato with sour cream, sweet and sour sauce, and garlic mayonnaise. We ordered three more rounds of six, and the whole meal was just €18.50 per person. Drinks were a little pricier than usual for a restaurant, though not overpriced. The food was a delight. We'll be back, and plan to try other dishes from the promising menu another evening. I highly recommend this Monday treat.

We were there for a big family celebration, and the service was abysmal. It felt like customers mattered only for their money. If there were an award for rudeness in restaurants, this place would win.
