Hotel Thüringer Hof

Our room was okay and moderately clean, which is the only reason I’m not giving one star. The service we experienced was lousy, and the 80€ per night definitely wasn’t worth it. At 2.30 pm on Saturday, we needed a hairdryer and found there wasn’t one in the room. The reception desk was empty, though the info brochure said it should be staffed. We called the mobile number we had and were told no hotel staff were in town, nothing could be done, and we should deal with it ourselves. When we mentioned it at checkout the next morning, we were asked why anyone would need a hairdryer in the afternoon. Neither the receptionist nor the owner apologized. Complaints got condescending remarks, and staff kept showing they had no interest in helping. Ridiculous. The old building lets you hear other guests through the walls. When I went to the bathroom at night, the neighbors banged furiously on the wall. I don’t really count that against the owners, since changing it would mean tearing down the building. There were other small irritations too: signs telling guests to remove their shoes before entering rooms and leave them on a special doormat. Breakfast was mediocre, and there was still a sign warning people not to steal food.

When we had to leave before breakfast, the very friendly staff put together generous lunch packs for us.

Good breakfast, and the place is clean and well situated. It’s simple, but cheap too.

A nice hotel in town, and the price was good.
