The apartment was decent and right by the lake, but dealing with the owner could be difficult. We’d agree on an appointment, and then he’d keep pestering my wife about the time, changing it, or one thing after another. He also got the VAT form wrong, or he wasn’t honest about the price to begin with. I still can’t tell which.

The lake and amazing trails were lovely, and the room had a beautiful layout. The bed was second to none. It would be a must for a couples’ getaway.

The price was the first problem: on arrival, the employee suddenly asked for €140 per night, even though the booking.de listing normally showed €70 for one night. Before that, I’d called after seeing his ad on booking.de to ask whether we needed proof of a negative COVID test or could get tested on site. He ignored that question and seemed focused only on renting the room by phone, although I’d explicitly said I wanted to book through booking.de. He told me, “No, no, you don’t need one. Bring me the €70 in cash.” We took that to mean one night was possible that weekend. When I challenged the new price, she called her boss and put him on the phone. He immediately became unfriendly. He claimed it was suddenly two nights for €140, though the employee had confirmed one night before the call. The whole room-rental process felt incomprehensible and unprofessional, and then the lies supposedly started. At that point, it’s better to just go to the lake.
