The staff were all very nice, but they didn’t seem well trained. The restaurant had recently changed owners, so perhaps they were still working through start-up problems. The waitress couldn’t explain the after-dinner shot that came with the three-course meal ordered by the neighbors, including how much alcohol it contained. Even after we told them how disappointed we were, nobody offered a dessert or other compensation. We won’t be back for a while. Maybe we’ll try again next year when things are running better. For this price range, the experience fell far short of what I’d expect. It felt like a place trying to be something it wasn’t ready to deliver. We were there on 27 Aug 22, hoping to sit outside on a lovely evening. It had rained earlier, but the rain had stopped and it was still warm. They wouldn’t let us sit outdoors. Inside, we had to share a large table with another couple, who were very nice and made that part a pleasant surprise. The food was a problem, too. Our goat cheese starter with bacon bits was barely warm, as were the other three servings at the table. My pork fillet was also barely warm. Of the six main courses, just one person said theirs arrived hot and tasted really good. My wife’s zucchini baked with cheese was the worst of the six: it cost 25 bucks, was small and undercooked, still quite firm, and nearly cold.

The Red Deer I had for dinner was one of the best wild game meals I’ve ever enjoyed. The food is sourced locally, and the wine regionally. I’d highly recommend the Syrah. The maître d'hôtel was absolutely fabulous, warm and welcoming. Google rates me among the top 10% of restaurant raters, and this was easily one of the ten best meals I’ve had the pleasure of eating. The scenery is beautiful in this remote part of Bavaria. The staff were friendly, though we couldn’t get hold of them in the afternoon or at night. I’d highly recommend it to people touring Bavaria by car.

Whenever my family comes to Germany, we make the trip from Regensburg to eat here. The trout filet is unreal, and the Zoiglbiermousse is really impressive. The Bauchstecherla are uniquely to die for. We love the service and atmosphere. A must see.
